PTP.023:“Living the Dream, to Homeless, to Having it All” with Nichole Carlson

Nichole Carlson was living the American dream she had a nice suburban home a great career and salary a nice car and husband. On the outside, it looks like she had it all and yet in her inner life she craved something more a life of excitement passion and vitality.

This led her to feel absorbed by guilt and the dilemma of why did she feel so empty when she had so much.

Then her life came crashing down her mother died of cancer at age 47, which led her to contemplate the brevity of life, and in short order, her marriage failed and she ended up selling her home in her car and ended up traveling Europe on her own for a number of years. When her funds and resources dried up she found herself homeless and eating out of dumpsters in London, England. If her mother’s death was a pivotal moment to cause Nichole to search for something more out of life than a second epiphany for her occurred when she found herself standing in line to get a meal at a soup kitchen for homeless people in London. She had the realization that although she had nothing of material goods she felt alive and full of passion for life more so than she had ever felt before. It was then that she knew that she could rebuild her life based on the understanding that her personal fulfillment was not based on physical things like homes and cars but was grounded in the understanding that an attitude of gratitude and a sense of personal fulfillment all comes from within. No longer did she desperately seek fulfillment based on finding the next shiny object but she came to understand that everything that had happened to her happened for a reason. Her mother’s death released her to go live her life outside the expectations others had for her. She could do good things with her pain and it even worked on her behalf. She came to know that safety and love and security comes from within your power to create them from your thoughts and from your inner life.

Nichole tells her story to Dr. Brad Miller in episode 23 of the Pathway to Promise Podcast and goes on to outline how she now serves as a life coach to others seeking to “have it all” based on her teachings of how to flip the switch of your life and realize your potential that you can have it all in business family life health and productivity. She tells Dr. Brad that a focus on inner peace and joy is the change of mindset needed to be successful in the disciplines she teaches and integrates into the whole person into what she calls a domino effect where your inner life’s health impacts your outer life successes. Nichole is a coach and has a weekly Facebook live program called the “Flip the Switch.”  She is devoted to overcoming the misconception that coaches are there to give advice, she advocates a coach is really there to help you figure out what you want and how to make it happen.

PTP.022: John Lee Dumas “Going All In”

In Episode 022 of The Pathway to Promise Podcast Dr. Brad Miller has a fascinating conversation with John Lee Dumas from Entrepreneur on Fire.

After serving eight years in the US Army and trying his hand in corporate real estate and finance John Lee Dumas was feeling stuck an unsatisfied with his circumstances.  It was then that he heard a podcast on entrepreneurs and he knew that he had to take massive action and go all in on creating The Entrepreneur on Fire Podcast.  The Entrepreneur on Fire Podcast has developed into a tremendously successful business which has allowed John to live the life of his dreams. The theme of “going all in” permeates the conversation that Dr. Brad and JLD have about overcoming adversity to achieve success.

John tells Brad that everyone is incredibly vulnerable at some point and one way to deal with this is my taking massive action toward achieving definable goals.  Taking bold action is key.

John also goes over with Brad the power of meditation and breathing practices to nurture the soul as key to success.  Indeed, John has created a new daily podcast “The Daily Refresh” which focuses on mediation, breathing exercises and inspirational quotes which is a part of the power of morning routine that all successful people implement.

John speaks also about the necessity of developing health productive habits as a disciplined strategic approach to success. As a matter of fact, John has created two journals to help people discipline their lives for success.   In particular, the Success Journal to help people achieve their top goal in 100 days and The Mastery Journal designed to help people master habits of productivity.

Utilizing this process is a type of formula for success according to John.  In a word, success is about going all in with healthy productive practices which when done consistently and properly add up to massive value creates a compound effect of success.

John goes on to tell Dr. Brad how he is applying his strategic thinking in creating a new product designed to help people with ideas for business success.  It’s called “Three Hours to Your Big Idea” and is designed to help people respond the problem of not generating a successful business idea or spring through having too many ideas and not acting on them.

PTP.021: Jerome Daley “Monk in the Marketplace”

PTP.021: Jerome Daley- “Monk in the Market Place”

Jerome Daley is a leadership coach and culture consultant who is passionate about helping leaders thrive…and build thriving organizational cultures.

Jerome Daley is Dr. Brad Miller’s guest on Episode 021 of the Pathway to Promise podcast.  Jerome tells Dr. Brad about his pivotal transition point in his life when after spending 10 years as a successful local church pastor he felt his life was not personally thriving and that his marriage and his kids got his leftovers and that he had to do something about that. Jerome chose to take a sabbatical of several weeks which stretched into more than a year of soul-searching, contemplation, and writing. Jerome discovered the power of transforming his inner life to be better engaged with his outer life and that’s what he teaches now as he works with individuals and organizations to build a culture that thrives and not deprive.  Jerome reveals to Dr. Brad several learnings from his time apart which he now incorporates into intentional acts in his personal life and it is teaching they include:

-Disengaging from life to find a new space.

-Pulling back from a path you are following in order to find a new path

-Looking for new opportunities when you reflect on crisis and turbulence that is at hand.

Jerome is a real advocate of finding times of quiet and solitude to let the hard drive of your brain spin down in order to recalibrate and rejuvenate so one performs better when you re-engage in your life; be in the family of the workplace.

Jerome rediscovered spiritual practices from studying Catholic writers and spiritual leaders and now applies spiritual practices such as the following into his daily life:

-Paying attention. This is focusing on the matter at hand without distraction.

-Welcome prayer. This is accepting and receiving God’s security for your life.

-Centering prayer. Which is seeking to quiet the mind and the voice and to accept stillness as a means to connect with a higher power of the Holy Spirit to refresh.

Jerome talks to Dr. Brad about his book “Monk in the Marketplace” which is where he applies the capacity to disengage is a vital part of making individuals and organizations effective when they do engage in them to thrive in achieving their mission.

Jerome tells Dr. Brad that his purpose is to equip and encourage leaders and organizations to transform into effective thriving people and organizations.

The purpose of the Pathway to Promise podcast is to provide guidance for people to transform from a life of meaninglessness to a life of meaningfulness and help people accept their God-given promised of life of peace, prosperity, and purpose.  Dr. Brad Miller has spent a lifetime working with personal life and organizational transformation and hold a doctoral degree in transformational leadership.  Each week Dr. Brad Miller teaches and brings great guests to help guide people to overcome life challenges to achieve their promised life of peace prosperity and purpose.

PTP.020:Dr. Lee Baucom – The Immutable Laws of Living: The Inspirational Blueprint to Living Your Meaningful Life.

The Immutable Laws of Living: The Inspirational Blueprint to Living Your Meaningful Life.

What defines a meaningful life is a question at the heart of Dr. Brad Miller’s interview with Dr. Lee Baucom author of The Immutable Laws of Living on Episode 020 of The Pathway to Promise podcast.

Dr. Baucom shares that he believes every person is destined to have an impact in this world, the question is whether our impact will be positive or negative and having a meaningful life is to have a purpose which gets us through the tough points in life to make a positive contribution to others.

Dr. Baucom shares with Dr. Brad his own struggles in overcoming significant health issues in his life and realizing that he now has bonus time in order to make a contribution to the greater good. Through his work in marriage and family counseling, Dr. Baucom developed a series of what he terms immutable laws of living which he unpacks on this episode of the Pathway to Promise.

Too often, Dr. Baucom contends we don’t accept the fact that life isn’t fair and we are waiting for life to be fair which doesn’t ever come. He makes the point, that we need to accept a life where it is and take advantage of our own special place in the world and move forward from where we’re at. To do otherwise is to be imprisoned by fear and scarcity. Whereas, shifting to an understanding of gratitude and abundance which comes from being generous to others can help us live a more meaningful life.

Dr. Baucom draws upon his spiritual faith as a source of power to give life meaning that there is something bigger than our own existence and to not draw on this power would be to reduce life to nothingness which certainly leads to a sense of meaninglessness.

Dr. Baucom tells Dr. Brad that there is power in human connection which anchors us to who we are and what we are all about. Relationships are always either growing or receding not staying stagnant; you can never really press the pause button on a relationship

Dr. Baucom teaches that accepting the law that life has challenges will help us grow as people. Life is not about happiness, happiness is a side effect of a meaningful life; whats more important is to designed one’s life to impact the world for the better.

Dr. Baucom goes into some depth about how people treat one another particular on the topic of forgiveness. Forgiveness helps people to be united to one another and not be stuck in a place of bitterness. Forgiveness is key to living a meaningful life.

Dr. Baucom also talks about the importance of understanding the power of one’s own death as a point of comparison; motivating us to act in a way to make our lives count every day. This also leads to meaningfulness.

Dr. Lee Baucom’s message on this episode of the Pathway to Promise podcast is important to help you to switch your thinking from focusing on what we are not getting out of life and instead to focus into putting more into, investing more, into our relationships and that will bring meaning to life.

You will find many great tips on how to live a meaningful life by listening to this great message from Dr. Lee Baucom in Episode 020 of the Pathway to Promise podcast with Dr. Brad Miller.

The vision of the Pathway to Promise Podcast is to help people understand and accept that they have a God-given promised life of peace, prosperity, and purpose, and that there is a pathway to find your promised life. PTP.019: Dan Miller – “The Power of Investing in Yourself”

ETP. 019: Dan Miller-“The Power of Investing in Yourself”

In episode 019 of the Pathway to Promise podcast Dr. Brad Miller explores the topic of the power of investing in yourself with the author and coach Dan Miller of 48 days.com.  Dan’s mission is to help people find their true path and calling and to translate that into meaningful purposeful and profitable work.

Dan shares with Dr. Brad’s own life transformation in overcoming the adversity of some bad decisions in his business which led him to find himself in debt to the tune of $430,000.   Dan discovered that the response to his adversity was not in external elements such as more employees and more buildings for his business but his answer was within in rethinking how he could add value to others and creative business from within.

This epiphany led Dan to take bold actions which he teaches his clients now through his books, podcast, and coaching. Dan contends that the power of the “status quo” has to be dealt with if people want to overcome adversity and breakthrough to true success in their life.  He says people have to break the pattern of sameness and get out of their comfort zone. This could be as simple as going to a concert or reading a book apart from their expected pattern of behavior.   Dan says one can break this pattern of sameness by intentionally doing three or four things for the benefit of others without any expectation of compensation.

The power in making these changes comes from a spiritual place for Dan. It is the understanding that integrates scope of things he is a small speck in yet everyone has a chance and opportunity to be a part of something bigger than themselves when they accept that God has a bigger plan for them. Dan sees faith as the foundation of true change.

One way Dan imparts the faith foundation into his life is by intentionally controlling what goes into his mind emphasizing “pure clean positive input” over this directive negative input.  This means more time on matters of prayer, meditation reading good books and productive life-enhancing conversations over negative inputs such as fretting over news reports. Indeed, Dan shared with Bradley statistic that people who watch three minutes of bad news on television in the morning are 27% more likely to report having a bad day which is unproductive. In short, Dan believes we can’t control what we put into our mind and this is a part of the power of investing in yourself; that is we become what we think about.

Dan believes that healthy vital relationships, particularly with family, are crucial to helping us have fulfillment and success in life. He expands on this by talking about the power of the friendships that we choose and how sometimes we need to put boundaries around unhealthy relationships which can be a detriment to our success journey.

Dan shares with Dr. Brad the power of intentional self-discipline in creating the environment for success. In particular, he talks about his daily and weekly schedule which includes significant blocks of focus uninterrupted time for deep work which is when Dan accomplishes the most. Dan shares that all people have the exact same amount of time is the application of a process and self-discipline to the time we have which makes all the difference in the world.

Dan says he is at peace with his good wife and with a good book. He finds purpose and helping high potential people find meaningful purposeful daily work and he experiences prosperity as understanding that the path to success is recognizing who you really are and that personal wealth comes as a result.

Dan concludes his conversation with Dr. Brad with the thought that no person should be an imposter living someone else’s dream when they can live the life of their dreams by claiming the power of investing in themselves.

There is much to learn from Dan Miller in Episode 019 of the Pathway to Promise podcast with Dr. Brett Miller.
