206: Recovering From A Financially Devastating Divorce Through Alternative Investments With Chris Odegard

Chris Odegard is Dr. Brad Miller’s guest on Episode 206 of “The Beyond Adversity Podcast.”

Chris grew up in a family of employees like most people. All he knew was that you went to school, you go to college, you get a job and then work and hopefully you get a pension by the end.

That’s all he did in his life until he went through a divorce with a 19-year marriage and lost 55% of his assets because of it.

He changed the way he invested his money and moved away from conventional investments like stocks, bonds and mutual funds to investments that are not publicly traded.

Nine years later, he made back the assets he lost and multiplied it many times over. Because of this, he never had to work for anybody ever again.

Chris believes that yes, money can’t buy you happiness but neither can poverty. Having money makes a lot of things easier for you. That life is so much easier with it than without it.

It’s not the money itself that is loved but the things it can do for yourself, your family, and your community.

He also believes in a study that up to a certain point and amount, money increases your quality of life and happiness but once you go beyond that point then there is no correlation anymore.

One time, his friend Bill told him about a book that he should read. It was “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki. It took him a long time before he started reading it but when he did, he was inspired to change how invested.

Because of that, he went to a free seminar of Robert Kiyosaki’s company. His car won’t start when he was trying to go but he managed to find a way to go anyway. By finding a car rental company that would drop a car off. He was really motivated to go to the seminar which is why he did that.

He always thinks about how if he was still married, he wouldn’t be where he is now. Because his wife would always talk him down on things he wanted to do. Sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith.

Episode 206 of The Beyond Adversity Podcast is a must listen for anyone who’s trying to invest while going through adversity, whether it’s depression, a divorce, a massive debt, etc. You should not give up hope just because of a few bumps along the road. Persevering towards your dreams regardless of adversity is key to having a happy and hopeful life.

205: Why Dieting Is Not The Answer To Your Weight Loss Problems with Stephanie Lueras

Stephanie is the CEO of Heart and Sole Fitness & Wellness. She is also a speaker, personal trainer, fitness nutrition specialist, and the author of Break Free to Health and Vitality.

Heart and Sole Fitness aims to empower you to break down barriers in achieving fitness, wellness, and accountability goals, no matter the starting point. Because every single person on earth is unique, and a healthy and whole person cares for their body physically, emotionally, and spiritually in different ways.

In this episode, Stephanie shares about her earlier life struggle with her physical and emotional health. As well as, telling us her story of how she eventually overcame these hardships.

Stephanie has been overweight her entire life and she has tried every single diet under the sun and none of them seemed to work for her.

She knew in her heart that dieting is not the answer to any of her problems and at the same time, something wasn’t right even though things looked great from the outside. Even though she was a pastor in a wonderful ministry and she has an amazing husband that’s very supportive of her.

Eventually, she had broken down at the office and started thinking about things a lot. This helped her think of a goal that will change her life.

She started to establish a habit of drinking water. Using a six-ounce cup that she fills multiple times a day.

She also started cooking more at home for her and her husband’s meals. So she can control the nutritional value of what they eat more. Eventually, she started doing some physical activity too. Starting by walking to the end of the street. She persevered through it even though she thought she felt she was going to die doing it.

Eventually, she got what she wanted and became healthier and actually happy with herself. And now she helps out those in need of assistance with their own health problems.

Episode 205 of The Beyond Adversity Podcast is a must-listen for anyone who’s trying to be healthier physically and emotionally. Motivation is a key part of every step of the way with something like this. Just trying to improve your life for the better will be very rewarding for you and finding the key to doing that in the first place will change your perspective about life itself.

204: “PAIN TO PURPOSE TO PASSION” with Charlene Madden

She is a speaker, empowerment coach, and author. She is a passionate promoter of life purpose, mental health survival and mindset mastery.

She also facilitates and hosts the Ignite Your Life BC Workshops.

Charlene has suffered from a dysfunctional family since childhood. Her father was a violent alcoholic and as a result, her mother left them, leaving Charlene and her sister behind. Eventually, they were taken in by her maternal grandparents. Her grandmother inspired her to be independent and educated. Unfortunately, they were both secretly sexually abused by their grandfather and when her sister suffered a nervous breakdown in school because of it, her grandfather was arrested and was divorced by their grandmother.

Charlene never received any proper counseling after what happened and when she was in high school, she was having depression and was cutting herself. She eventually learned how to cope with it through writing. However, her writing style was noticed by her teacher, and she had to go through a psychological evaluation where she was diagnosed with Bipolar Manic Depressive Disorder.

When she became an adult and had children, she unfortunately also turned to alcohol and was having suicidal thoughts. Eventually, she left her family because she thought she was unfit to be a mother. She, later on, had a relationship with another person who was having mental health problems and got physically abused by him. Eventually, she couldn’t take it anymore and tried to commit suicide. While doing it, she had an epiphany and was, fortunately, able to get herself to a hospital. Unfortunately, after that, she was still suicidal and planned to shoot herself before getting herself into a workshop where speeches from people who went through a lot inspired her to do things for others too and learn to appreciate and love herself more.

Episode 204 of The Beyond Adversity Podcast is for those people who have been suffering or suffered through family problems, sexual abuse, alcoholism, depression, and suicidal thoughts.

This episode discusses how one can deal with past traumas such as having an alcoholic parent and sexual abuse in a very wholesome way: by helping others who are going or went through horrible experiences in their lives.
