Johnny Sirpilla is Dr. Brad Miller’s guest on Episode 221 of “The Beyond Adversity Podcast.”
He is an author, speaker, and entrepreneur that aims to help businesses, communities, and universities in encouraging growth, development, and inspire others.
He also wrote the book entitled, “Life is Hard but I’ll Be OK: The Power of Hope Emerging through Pain and Learning to Live with Gratitude.”
Johnny and his wife, Susan, has faced an adversity in their lives that truly challenged them. It took them years to get pregnant. They had to go through fertility treatments. However, when they did, the babies didn’t make it. They all passed away due to prematurity. They had triplets whom they named: Nicholas, Mary, and Peter.
Episode 221 of the Beyond Adversity Podcast is for those people who are going through hardships in life and are trying to discover the reason why they are experiencing it. This is for those people who are trying to find ways in overcoming their adversities in life.
They questioned themselves why this happened and why did they have to go through it. They had to go through therapy in order to overcome their adversities. Although even before, they were already undergoing therapy due to the hardships they had to face to have children.
Over time they were able to find their true purpose in life and it led them to who they are today.

Growing up, Patrick was raised in a messy and abusive environment. He was born to a college dropout father and a mother who is currently a student and is suffering from Schizophrenia. His mother’s mental illness was something that was hidden from his father, and after a few years of marriage, his parents split up and his father left.
When his mother had a massive nervous breakdown, he was taken into foster care where they tried to find his dad. Once he was found, his dad took him to Cameroon under the supervision of his grandmother.

She is an author, an inspirational speaker, and a coach with a focus on self-healing and self-improvement. It aims to help people with their lives and overcome the adversity they may encounter.
Look, Lush is a book by Sara Webb that is a collection of poems. The book focuses on two meanings. For the first one, look refers to how Sara stood up and overcame her challenges in life. Meanwhile, lush refers to a lot of things, including addiction, nature, etc.
Sara has experienced a traumatic event in her life which led to her becoming an alcoholic. Drinking alcohol was her way to forget and cope with what happened to her.
There was even a time where she revoked her faith in God, but she eventually realized the importance and role of God in one’s life.

Overcoming Suicide Ideation and Bridging the Gap in Mental Health Support with Dylan Sessler author of “Defy the Darkness
He is a veteran of the US Army, as well as an author, mental health advocate, speaker, and survivor. He has survived various adverse life events in his life and is now trying to help people overcome their own adversity.
Dylan wrote a book entitled “Defy the Darkness: A Story of Suicide, Mental Health, and Overcoming Your Hardest Battles,” which mainly tackles the things he had to go through in life and how he was able to survive them. Aside from a book, he also has a podcast and a TikTok account.
At such a young age, Dylan had a traumatic event with his dad, who passed away by suicide. That event left him filled with guilt and regret.
Growing up, he experienced physical and emotional trauma at the hands of his mother’s boyfriend. He suffered silently, bearing all the pain on his own. When his mother found out about how he got hit, they immediately left the house. Aside from that, he also suffered from bullying in school.

All the traumatic events that happened in Dylan’s life led to his choice to enter the military. He had developed principles which contributed to the choices he made in life.
Dylan experienced more challenges in life as he got older. He eventually realized that he was suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Little by little, he tried his best to overcome the challenges in his life.
